Carbon dioxide

A colorless, odorless gas that can be encountered during drilling operations, either naturally occurring in reservoir formations or as a byproduct of certain chemical reactions. When dissolved in drilling fluids, it lowers the pH and can cause corrosion of drilling equipment. Its presence is monitored to prevent safety hazards and maintain fluid properties.
