Caustic potash
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000597
The common name for potassium hydroxide (KOH), a strong, alkaline chemical used in some water-based and oil-based drilling fluids. It is added to increase pH, which enhances the performance of certain polymers and controls corrosion by neutralizing acidic gases like carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide. Due to its high alkalinity, it requires careful handling with appropriate personal protective equipment to prevent severe chemical burns.
