pH
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004408
A measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a fluid, expressed on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 14. It quantifies the hydrogen ion activity, where a value of 7 is neutral, values below 7 are acidic, and values above 7 are alkaline. Most water-based drilling fluids are maintained at an alkaline pH, typically between 9.0 and 11.5, to control clay swelling and minimize corrosion.
