Chemical barrel
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000644
A drum-sized vessel holding tens of gallons, kept at the mud pits, that doses a liquid chemical into the circulating mud little by little. It has traditionally been used to add caustic soda or caustic potash solution at a slow, steady rate so that the mud pH stays in its target range. Because its volume is measured in gallons, it is far smaller than the hundreds of barrels held in a mud pit.
