Chelation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000643
The chemical process where a chelating agent forms a stable, ring-like complex with a metal ion, effectively sequestering it in solution. This reaction prevents the metal ion from participating in other chemical reactions, such as forming insoluble precipitates or scale. Chelation is applied in acidizing treatments to prevent the precipitation of iron compounds.
