Sequestering agent

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003341

A chemical additive that binds with metal ions in drilling fluids, preventing them from reacting with other components and causing undesirable effects. These agents form stable, soluble complexes with ions such as calcium, magnesium, and iron, which can otherwise lead to flocculation, scale formation, or interference with polymer performance. Common sequestering agents include ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and citric acid.
