Total hardness test
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003873
A chemical test performed on drilling fluid filtrate to determine the concentration of divalent cations, primarily calcium and magnesium ions. High hardness can cause flocculation of clays and interfere with the performance of certain mud additives. The test typically involves titration with a chelating agent like EDTA.
