Indicator

A substance that undergoes a distinct change, such as a color change, in response to a specific chemical condition, often used to determine the endpoint of a titration or the pH of a solution. In drilling fluid analysis, indicators are used to measure alkalinity, hardness, or the presence of certain ions. Phenolphthalein is a common indicator for pH measurements.
