Indicator

A measurable variable or phenomenon that provides information about the state or trend of a system, often used to assess environmental conditions or climate change. In meteorology, an indicator might be a specific weather parameter, a biological response, or a chemical concentration. For example, sea surface temperature anomalies can indicate El Niño events.
