Citric acid
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000682
A weak organic acid used in drilling and completion fluids as a calcium sequestrant and pH buffer. It is added to fluids to prevent the precipitation of calcium compounds, such as calcium carbonate or calcium sulfate, by chelating the calcium ions. Citric acid is also used to lower the pH of cement slurries or to break down filter cakes during well cleanup operations.
