Iron carbonate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004365
A scale-forming mineral, FeCO3, that precipitates in drilling fluids and production systems, especially in the presence of carbon dioxide and ferrous iron. It forms hard, adherent deposits on tubulars and equipment, restricting flow and reducing efficiency. Prevention involves controlling pH, using scale inhibitors, or removing dissolved iron and CO2 from the fluid.
