Carbonate scale
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000548
A hard, mineral deposit, primarily calcium carbonate (CaCO3), that forms on the internal surfaces of production tubing, pipelines, and other equipment. It precipitates from produced water when changes in pressure, temperature, or CO2 concentration cause the water to become supersaturated with carbonate ions. This scale can restrict fluid flow and reduce production efficiency.
