Calcite
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000514
A common rock-forming mineral of calcium carbonate, CaCO3, that makes up limestone and, after recrystallisation, marble. It is the main component of many carbonate reservoir rocks and can precipitate as scale in wellbores and production equipment. Calcite has rhombohedral cleavage, a Mohs hardness of 3, and fizzes in cold dilute hydrochloric acid.
