Calcium bromide
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000515
A salt used to formulate high-density, solids-free completion and workover fluids, particularly in situations requiring densities greater than those achievable with sodium or potassium salts. It is a clear brine that minimizes formation damage by avoiding the introduction of solids into the reservoir. Calcium bromide brines can achieve densities up to approximately 14.2 pounds per gallon (1.7 specific gravity).
