Calcium chloride
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000518
A salt, CaCl2, commonly used in drilling fluids as a source of calcium ions, for density control in brines, and as a shale inhibitor. It can also be added to cement slurries to accelerate setting time. However, its presence in water-based muds can cause flocculation of bentonite and other clay-based additives, requiring careful management.
