Haematite

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001780

A naturally occurring iron oxide mineral (Fe2O3) used as a high-density weighting agent in drilling fluids to increase mud weight. It has a specific gravity of approximately 5.0 to 5.2, allowing for higher mud densities compared to barite. Haematite is typically used when mud weights exceed 16 pounds per gallon.
