Galena
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001601
A naturally occurring lead sulfide mineral, sometimes used as a high-density weighting agent in drilling fluids. Its high specific gravity allows for the formulation of very heavy muds, necessary for controlling high formation pressures. However, its use is limited due to environmental concerns regarding lead content.
