Barite

A heavy, non-metallic mineral composed of barium sulfate (BaSO4), characterized by its high specific gravity, typically around 4.5. It is widely used as a weighting agent in drilling muds to control formation pressures and prevent blowouts. Barite is also used as a pigment and in medical applications.
