Ilmenite
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001939
A naturally occurring iron titanium oxide mineral (FeTiO3) that can be used as a weighting agent in drilling fluids. With a specific gravity of approximately 4.7, it is denser than barite and can achieve higher mud weights with less solids volume. Ilmenite is an alternative to barite, particularly when very high mud densities are required.
