Illite

A common clay mineral belonging to the mica group, characterized by its non-expanding lattice structure. It forms through the alteration of other minerals or as a direct precipitate during diagenesis. Illite can reduce reservoir permeability by forming pore-filling cements or by migrating and blocking pore throats.
