Weight
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004128
A measure of the density of a drilling fluid, expressed as pounds per gallon (ppg), pounds per cubic foot (lb/ft3), or specific gravity. Maintaining the correct fluid weight is necessary to control formation pressures and prevent wellbore collapse. Typical drilling fluid weights range from 8.3 ppg for freshwater to over 20 ppg for heavy brines.
