Mud weight
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002463
The density of the drilling fluid, measured in pounds per gallon (ppg), specific gravity, or grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm³). It is a fundamental property that controls hydrostatic pressure in the wellbore, preventing formation fluids from entering the well and maintaining wellbore stability. Mud weight is adjusted by adding weighting agents like barite or hematite.
