Clear brine
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000698
A solids-free aqueous solution of salts, such as sodium chloride, calcium chloride, or potassium formate, used as a completion or workover fluid. Its primary function is to control downhole pressure without introducing solid particles that could plug the pore throats of the reservoir rock and impair productivity. The density of a clear brine is adjusted by selecting the type and concentration of salt, with densities ranging from approximately 8.4 to over 20 pounds per gallon.
