Zinc bromide

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004201

A highly soluble salt, ZnBr2, used with calcium bromide and calcium chloride to formulate the heaviest clear brines for completion and workover fluids. Because these brines carry no suspended solids, they control formation pressure without plugging the reservoir. Zinc-calcium bromide blends reach densities of about 19.2 pounds per gallon, or 2.3 specific gravity.
