Zinc basic carbonate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004200
A chemical compound, ZnCO3·xZn(OH)2, used as a scavenger in drilling fluids to remove hydrogen sulfide (H2S). It reacts with H2S to form insoluble zinc sulfide, thereby mitigating the corrosive and toxic effects of the gas. This additive is particularly effective in water-based muds and is typically added in concentrations ranging from 1 to 10 pounds per barrel.
