Zinc carbonate
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004202
A drilling fluid additive that acts as a scavenger for hydrogen sulfide (H2S), reacting with the toxic gas to form insoluble zinc sulfide. This reaction removes H2S from the drilling fluid, preventing its release at the surface and mitigating corrosion of drilling equipment. It is typically added to water-based drilling muds in concentrations ranging from 1 to 10 pounds per barrel.
