Sulfide test
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003688
A chemical test performed on drilling fluids to detect the presence and concentration of soluble sulfide ions, such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The most common method is the Garrett Gas Train, which uses a carrier gas to separate H2S from the mud sample for reaction with a detector tube. Detecting sulfides is a primary safety measure, as H2S is highly toxic and corrosive, and its presence requires immediate treatment of the mud system with scavengers.
