Sour corrosion
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003514
Corrosion of metallic components in oil and gas production systems caused by the presence of hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a highly corrosive and toxic gas. H2S reacts with steel to form iron sulfides, leading to pitting, cracking, and general material degradation. This type of corrosion is a major concern in sour gas fields and requires specialized materials and inhibition strategies.
