Embrittlement
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001290
A process that causes a material, typically a metal, to lose its ductility and become brittle, making it more susceptible to fracture. In drilling, this can occur in steel components due to exposure to hydrogen sulfide (H2S), leading to hydrogen embrittlement. This phenomenon is a particular concern in sour gas environments, where H2S concentrations are high.
