Hydrogen embrittlement
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001910
A reduction in the ductility and load-bearing capacity of a metal caused by the absorption of atomic hydrogen. Hydrogen atoms diffuse into the metal lattice, leading to crack initiation and propagation under stress. This phenomenon is a concern in high-strength steels exposed to hydrogen sulfide environments.
