Sulfide

A chemical compound containing the sulfide ion (S2-) or a sulfur atom bonded to a metal or nonmetal. In drilling operations, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a highly toxic and corrosive gas often encountered in sour formations. Sulfides can cause embrittlement and cracking of steel components.
