Ferrous sulfide

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001387

A chemical compound, FeS, that forms as a black precipitate when iron reacts with hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in an anaerobic environment. In oil and gas operations, ferrous sulfide can cause severe corrosion in pipelines and equipment, and its accumulation can plug perforations and reduce permeability. It is a common scale found in sour gas systems.
