Iron sulfide

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002040

A chemical compound of iron and sulfur, such as pyrite (FeS2) or pyrrhotite (FeS). It can form in drilling fluids when iron components react with hydrogen sulfide, leading to corrosion and the generation of black solids. Iron sulfide is often managed by using sulfide scavengers or maintaining an alkaline pH.
