Bromide brine

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000467

A clear, solids-free completion or workover fluid made by dissolving calcium bromide, zinc bromide, or both in water, sometimes blended with calcium chloride. Bromide salts reach higher densities than sodium or calcium chloride brines, about 14 to 15 pounds per gallon with calcium bromide alone and up to roughly 19 with zinc bromide, so they balance high formation pressure without adding solids. Zinc bromide blends are acidic and corrosive and need inhibitors and careful handling.
