Clear-water drilling
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000699
A drilling technique that uses only water, or water with minimal additives, as the circulating fluid to remove cuttings from the wellbore. This method is employed in formations that are stable and do not require the complex rheological properties or filtration control of conventional drilling muds. It is often used for shallow wells, water wells, or in certain hard rock environments where formation damage from mud solids is a concern.
