Air drilling

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000083

A drilling method that uses compressed air or other gases as the circulating medium instead of drilling mud to remove cuttings from the wellbore. This technique is applied in hard, dry formations where water influx is minimal and lost circulation is a concern. It offers faster penetration rates and minimizes formation damage compared to conventional mud drilling.
