Scale removal
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003269
The elimination of mineral scale from tubing, perforations, pipelines and surface equipment, where deposits such as calcium carbonate, barium sulfate and strontium sulfate restrict flow. Carbonate scale is dissolved with acid, sulfate scale with chelant solutions based on EDTA or DTPA, and hard deposits are removed mechanically by milling, jetting or scraping. Scale inhibitors do not remove existing scale, since they only prevent new deposition.
