Scallop gun
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003270
A hollow carrier perforating gun whose steel body has shallow recesses, called scallops, machined at each shot position. The shaped charge fires through the thinner wall at the recess, and the burr raised around the exit hole stays inside the recess, so the outside diameter of the gun does not grow and it can still be pulled through the casing. The carrier stays sealed, so the charges are not exposed to well fluid.
