Standoff
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004455
The distance between the front of a shaped charge, or the outside of its gun, and the casing wall it must penetrate. For most oilfield charges a small standoff gives the largest entrance hole and the deepest penetration, while a wide gap lets the jet break up before impact. Centralizing or decentralizing the gun in the casing fixes the standoff at each charge position.
