Standing valve

A one-way check valve located at the bottom of a sucker rod pump or tubing string that allows fluid to enter the pump chamber from the wellbore but prevents it from flowing back out. It opens on the upstroke of the pump and closes on the downstroke, holding the fluid column. This valve is typically retrieved with a wireline or by pulling the tubing string.
