Upstroke
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004002
The upward movement of the sucker rod string and the downhole pump plunger in a beam pumping unit. During the upstroke, the traveling valve closes, and the standing valve opens, allowing the fluid above the plunger to be lifted towards the surface. This action creates a pressure differential that draws new fluid into the pump barrel.
