Plunger overtravel
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002831
A condition in sucker rod pumping where the plunger at the subsurface pump travels a longer stroke than the polished rod does at the surface. Acceleration forces in the oscillating rod string add extra motion at the pump, offsetting part of the stretch of rods and tubing under fluid load. It grows as pumping speed rises.
