Undertravel
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003985
A condition in sucker rod pumping where the plunger at the downhole pump travels a shorter stroke than the polished rod does at the surface. It results from stretch of the rods and tubing under the fluid load, and from downhole friction, so it reduces the pump displacement. Its counterpart is overtravel, where dynamic acceleration makes the plunger stroke longer.
