Rod pump

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003186

A type of artificial lift system that uses a reciprocating downhole pump driven by a surface pumping unit and a string of sucker rods. The pump lifts reservoir fluids to the surface through the production tubing. Rod pumps are widely used in wells with low reservoir pressure or high water cuts, and are characterized by their distinctive walking beam at the surface.
