Pony rod

A short sucker rod used in a rod pumping system, typically installed between the polished rod and the main string of sucker rods. Its length is chosen to adjust the overall rod string length to match the pump depth and stroke length. Pony rods come in standard lengths, such as 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 feet.
