Beam pump
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000305
A type of artificial lift in which a surface pumping unit, driven by an electric motor or engine, converts rotary motion into the up-and-down rocking of a walking beam. The beam strokes a string of sucker rods that works a plunger pump at the bottom of the well and lifts fluid up the tubing. It is the most widely installed form of artificial lift on onshore oil wells with low to moderate production rates.
