Overtravel
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002663
The excess of the plunger stroke at the downhole pump over the polished rod stroke at the surface in a rod pumped well. Inertia of the oscillating rod string throws the plunger beyond the surface stroke at the end of each stroke, and the effect grows with pumping speed. Plunger stroke equals surface stroke minus rod and tubing stretch plus overtravel.
