Fluid pound
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001508
A condition in a rod-pumped well where the pump plunger descends faster than the wellbore fluid can fill the pump barrel, causing the plunger to strike the fluid surface with force. This creates a hammering sound and can lead to equipment damage and reduced pumping efficiency. It is often addressed by adjusting the pumping unit's speed or stroke length.
