OWC

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002664

The depth or surface within a reservoir that separates the zone containing mobile oil from the underlying water-saturated zone, also known as the oil-water contact. This interface is not always a sharp, flat plane; it can be a transition zone of mixed saturation over several meters, influenced by capillary pressure and rock properties. The OWC is a key input for calculating the volume of oil in place and is identified using well logs, core data, or pressure measurements.
