Invaded zone

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002025

The region of a reservoir formation where drilling fluid filtrate has displaced the original formation fluids, such as oil, gas, or connate water. This zone surrounds the borehole and its depth of invasion depends on factors like formation permeability, mud properties, and differential pressure. Resistivity logs are particularly sensitive to the invaded zone's characteristics.
